“The Klopp Era”

A series of illustrations unravelling the narrative of four iconic goals within Jürgen Klopp’s nine year reign at the club, in reaction to his resignation. Being heavily inspired by the aesthetic of graphic novels, I aimed to encapsulate the impact, and overwhelming emotion produced by these particular moments.

Digital Painting

This is an aspect of my practice I’m still fairly new to. Independently learning how to paint in a software has also delivered it’s share of challenges along the way. However, the process has been exciting, and it’s a style of working I’m constantly attempting to incorporate into my next project.

The portrait is a study I painted within my spare time.

The landscape painting was a commission for the John Murray book cover competition (2024), This competition I participated within tasked me to design a front and back cover for the book titled, Portraits at the Palace of Creativity and Wrecking (Han Smith). I was tasked with the aim of producing a cover that reflected the context of this coming-of-age narrative.

Character Design

For this project, I wanted to produce the visual structure for a video game, with the concept being set within a futuristic metropolis. Solely focusing only on three main characters. That being the hero, villain,  and damsel-in-distress.

I wanted to expand on a narrative for each character, their backstory and ambitions. Detracting from the stereotypical tropes that would be given to them by each role.

Once I felt confident with my characters, I entered the design phase. Creating a set of silhouettes for each character and their props. Refining details through a finalised sketch, concept art is a process I was only able to skim the surface with, and would be determined to revisit.

Pencil Drawings

Inspired by the popular manga and anime ONE PIECE (1997), created by Eiichiro Oda. I adapted the art style and used it to reimagine the text ‘The House with Only an Attic and a Basement’ by Kathryn Maris.

Dissecting the text and imagining an interpretation of it. Envisaging these two characters, and the complexity of their relationship between one another.

Apart from applying the stylistic filter over this project, the main challenge was being able to identify the correct features and themes that could best reflect the narrative.

Pencil Drawings

This project involved the process of researching a culture and constructing a perspective on what makes that culture visually significant. Selecting the culture of competitive Smash Bros., I decided to draw the original character roster (12 characters) from the first installment Super Smash Bros. (1999). Producing a 1:1 drawing of each character, as they appear in the most recent installment to date, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (2018).

I chose to focus this project on this subject as I believe it’s a culture with very little representation. A culture in which beholds much nostalgia and is very personal to me.
